Testing Your App's Security in the Cloud, FTC Questions Children Apps and More
Cenzic Introduces Offline Security Testing
Yesterday, security company Cenzic launched a new product that for the first time allows mobile-app developers to test their programs’ security on any platform entirely through the cloud.
This means that without going live, Cenzic’s program will mark and
explain vulnerabilities and security flaws and will point developers to
the affected code. The platform will also be continually updated so that
the most recent threats can be tested against client applications.
Not Enough Info on Apps Targeting Children
An FTC study examining privacy issues in apps targeting children found that such apps inadequately explain the data collected,
if it’s being shared and who sees that information. With around 8,000
children’s apps in the Apple App Store and more than 3,600 in the
Android Marketplace, the FTC was unable to find much information
available to a parent contemplating downloading. Nielsen reports that in
Q4 2011, seven out of 10 households with tablets and children allowed
children access to the device.
Better Late than Never? RIM Brings Email App to PlayBook Tablet
Next week, if you own a RIM BlackBerry PlayBook you will be able to send and receive email from the tablet.
The company that introduced wireless email to the world has been
painfully slow to release this upgrade. Still analysts wonder if this is
too little too late. Corporate customers who flocked to BlackBerry
phones years ago, have all but abandoned the company, and odds are this
features and some other upgrades won't be enough to buoy RIM.
Microsoft Hates Google, Duh
Not surprisingly Microsoft is not a fan of Google Docs.
Yesterday, Microsoft decided to go on the offensive in Google’s own
domain uploading a viral attack video to YouTube. Looking forward to
Google’s rebuttal.
